Daniel Bennie’s Early Life and Background

Daniel Bennie was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Australia where he spent most of his childhood and early teenage years. He attended the Australian International School in Hong Kong, where his father, Niall Bennie, worked as the Director of Sport. He picked interest in football and began playing early on as a kid before moving to Perth, Australia, where he continued his development.

Club Career

Perth Glory

Bennie started his youth career with A-League club Perth Glory and quickly gained attention for his talents. On July 10, 2023, he signed his first professional contract with Perth and made his unofficial debut less than a week later in a friendly game against English Premier League side West Ham United, scoring one goal in a 6–2 defeat.

Bennie would eventually make his competitive debut for Perth Glory on July 18, 2023, coming on as a substitute in a 4–0 Australia Cup loss to Macarthur FC. He earned his first start for the club on the 22nd of October 2023, in a 2–2 league draw against Newcastle Jets.

Queens Park Rangers (QPR)

On May 30, 2024, Queens Park Rangers (QPR) announced the signing of Daniel Bennie from Perth Glory for a fee rumored to be around £250,000.

He made his Championship debut on August 10, 2024, coming off the bench in a 3–1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion and has been a part of the first team ever since. His move to England was seen as a significant breakthrough in his career, giving him the opportunity to develop further in one of the most competitive football leagues in the world.

International Career

Daniel Bennie received his taste of international football with his first call-up to the Australian U-17 national team in June 2023, ahead of the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup. During the tournament, he scored one goal as Australia reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Japan.

Despite representing Australia at the youth level, Bennie remains eligible to play for Hong Kong’s national team as he was born there and spent part of his childhood in the country. As of the time of reporting, he has not yet been officially capped by the Australian senior team.

Daniel Bennie is an explosive winger with excellent dribbling skills, close ball control, and impressive pace which allows him to thrive in one-on-one situations against opposition defenders. While predominantly a left winger, his versatility on the pitch also gives him the leverage to comfortably play on the right wing.
